Hey all. I am working my ass off these days (at the 9-5 job), so I havent really had time to network and do new tracks with people. But I can say, that my new tracks are turning out really good and so far I am pretty convinced that my new sound will blow “Deconstructing Fred” away of the radar. I spent some days visiting other Danish producers in their studios, amongst others Pitchshifters and The Hideout studio (Atilla, Jooks). It is refreshing to visit other people and see how they work and to hear some of the things they are working on. The Jooks album (which is in Danish) will be very dope - I heard 5-6 tracks of it and it is bananas.

Other than that, my plan is to start working on a new blog layout, so I can have it ready for the beginning of the new year. I want something fresh and artsy fartsy with alot of pictures and videos.

During the next 2 weeks, I plan on preparing some Christmas gifts for my regular visitors - I have some treats coming your way soon. Just gotta decide on what I feel like sharing, hehe.

And here are some random links, which I felt like sharing:

If you are a Logic user (like me), you might wanna take a look at this video of Just Blaze showing you how to chop samples and easily assign them in the ESX24 sampler. A pretty nice trick, if you didn’t know.. Now you can throw away that old “Recycle” program of yours

Andy Samberg from Saturday Night Live is genius! Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXfHLUlZf4 - This is a classic. Almost better than “Dick in a box”.

And last but not least, a big congratulations to Troo.L.S from the Danish group, Suspekt. He has just signed a contract with Akon’s production company, Konvict Productions. That’s BIG! Way to go man.. That’s all for now!

Peace to Marvin Gaye! It’s winter here in Denmark now (or at least it is for the next 3-4 days) and I have been working on some new material. Yesterday I was in the studio (Babyfactory) to get some live strings played on two new tracks. I gotta say - WOW! I can’t remember the last time, I was so blown away by any musicians. These two classically trained musicians (Purple Strings) simply made my tracks alot better and added something extra to them. Cello, Violin and double bass. Really, very talented and professional people! I hope to work alot with these guys in the future! I also recorded alot of video in from the session, but unfortunately I am saving that for a DVD/documentary in the future - to document the process of making an album. On another note, I am also locked down in the lab the next 3 days, working on a new single with TV-celebrities. Can’t say too much about this yet - not before next week or so. Oh yeah, also working on new tracks with Swedish rapper Prop Dylan (for his upcoming record) and also American Fresno sensation, Fashawn.

Life is good other than that. I had a crazy weekend. Playing “Rockband” with my friends on the xbox360. Playing Guitar on the medium difficulty setting (on tracks you barely know or never even heard of) is pretty tough. But I must admit, it’s freakin’ priceless to watch your friends jam on the drums, bass and microphone. I was pretty good at playing “The Clash - Should I stay or should I go”, but failed miserably when attempting other lesser known tracks. I have some footage documentating the evening, but can’t share it because I look like a retard - a very concentrated retard. Slash, look OUT - I’m coming for your job!

So, did you guys hear the new Kanye album? (808’s and Heartbreak) What’s your opinion? I must admit, first time I heard most of the tracks I kinda hated them. Who was this singing dude and what had he done to my idol? Then, I thought to myself - I had to give it a chance. I played it on my stereosystem in my living room and then it hit me. Especially “Welcome to Heartbreak” and “Heartless” hit me right in the guts! The rest of the album is still to grow on me, but I think it could happen. Regardless of what people say - he made a really good album (with a really big set of balls to go along with it). “…And my head keeps spinning, can’t stop having these visions, I gotta keep with it.” Peace, Fred.

Whattup! I have been sick this past week or so. Doing nothing but sleeping my days away. Doc said I had some kinda virus, and that I just had to wait it out. That’s what I’m doing at the moment (while coughing my lungs out). So not too much going on at the moment. I can feel this bothers me. Also the grey weather and rainy days simply torments me. I think, I am starting to get a case of the winter blues. Now, if I had the money I would get on the next plane to somewhere hot and warm, but since I don’t.. guess I will have to do with out.

Also, I have like 2-3 tracks that I have produced for people which are almost done, but only needs little interaction from their part to be finished. Still, the people involved are slow as fuck and I am waiting for them to do their part. This shit is driving me crazy and really, I feel like pulling the plug and say: “fuck it, you’ve had your chance”. But the thing is, the tracks will look really good on my curriculum vitae. So should I svallow my pride and wait for these slow fucks? Or should I just say fuck it? Argh, these choices are tough. I hate it when the making of a track extends to anything beyond a month or 2.

On another note, I’m also really tired of making music by myself. Music making is supposed to be funny. I can’t remember when’s the last time I had fun making music. So I think I will prioritize this in the future. Finding someone to work with - make beats together, whole songs and writing lyrics. I am open to suggestions. Anywho, this has been enough rambling from me. I will get back to wiping my nose with extra soft kleenex.

I am working on a track for a new Little Vic mixtape. I have been cool with Vic for some time now and he asked me to write a verse for a hot beat from DJ JohnJohn, which I offcourse accepted! It will be hosted by G-unit’s DJ Whoo kid and should be finished sometime soon. Producers on the mixtape should include Big Ko, Buckwild, Alchemist, Red Spyda, Double Shot, Marco Polo, Velotz, Sly Vest, Al Tarba, Muneshine, FredNukes, Hitfarmers & TZar thus far. You will get to hear me spit on a real grimey NY beat - hey, there is a first time for everything eh? Look out for this one..

Inspired by the good readers of this blog, I decided to deconstruct one of the beatmaking moments from my album. My favorite beat on “Deconstructing Fred” is the outro, entitled “What’s next” (and not just because I did it myself, but basically because this beat touches something in me - no homo). I re-recorded the same verse over 3-4 different beats, but just couldn’t get that “closing” feeling I was looking for. After a couple of days, I found an old soul sample which had a really nice sound to it (sorry, can’t share the sample here). Chopped it up and put on some heavy drums, actually I think I took a kickdrum from a Kanye track and blended it with another breakbeat drum to create a slamming kick. After that, I played a heavy synth on the beat (from my motif rack - I think I blended 2 different sounds together to create a wider 80’s synth sound) and added strings. My plan was to get these strings re-played with real instruments: Violin, cello and more - to get that really big, orchestral, larger than life feeling. But unfortunately we didn’t have enough money on the budget or time left to do it. When I look back at it, I really wish we could have done it.

The track turned out close to how I imagined it; I even sampled my favorite movie (American Splendor - “Ordinary life is pretty complex stuff”) for the closing seconds of the song. I have uploaded the instrumental beat if anyone wanna peep it - sounds a bit different without any vocals on it. The original album track is also there to listen to.

What’s Next (Instrumental)

What’s Next (Original)

Some bonus material:

When I was in the booth recording the album track “I see the light“, i had a bit of a cold. Therefore I was all drugged up on chamomile tea, trying to wrap the track up. But unfortunately, when doing the first verse, I started to sneeze, badly. This is what it sounds like..

Bob Saget, eat your heart out and peep this blooper:

Hope you enjoy this, hehe.

So, still licking the wounds from the “Aarhus Took It” hip hop festival a week ago. 3 Weeks days of drinking, being utterly butterly wasted and no sleep at all. Safe to say, I’m getting to old for this shit.

My own concert went really well, I think. We went on stage (me and DJ Diverze) at 21.15 - where people were just showing up (peace to Supajan who did a dope show just before us). So we did a 30-minutes set, where I played the album tracks and 2-3 new tracks. Everything went well, but I was a bit pissed that there weren’t anymore people - due to the fact that they were all outside, waiting in line to get in (and one by one getting analprobed by the securitydudes). So fuck that - the ones who were there seemed to be enjoying the show! To everyone else - congratulations, you missed my final show! (the final show before I embark on a new album and won’t do any more shows before I have a new album ready - if that ever happens). Oh well, since I am not completely heartless - I will supply you guys with a link, where you can hear a couple of the tracks I played! Check it out @ dr.dk/musik. Pictures are up @ my facebook fanpage - check it out (and join it if you feel like it).

I met alot of cool people over there, including some fans, who really gave me alot of love. So thanks a bunch for that you guys!

Noticable events, which occured during the 3 days:

I met up with Black Milk after my show and told him that I thought he was a really dope producer and that i wanted him to take a listen to my CD (which I gave him at the same time) which I had worked on for 4 years and considered it to be my baby. Now during the conversation, he didn’t really pay a lot of attention and his eyes weren’t really focused on me at any point during the talk. I can live with that, and figured it was just his way of behaving (or simple I’m-too-cool-to-look-you-in-the-eyes-arrogance). But later during the evening, I talk to one of my girl friends (as in friend and nothing more) and she told me that she had recieved a CD from “one of the Caltroit dudes”. I thought, wow, what a co-incidence - considering the fact that the only one I gave a CD to that night was black Milk. So I wrote him a message with pretty much the same text as above and this is what he replied:

“man i havnt gave that album out, either sombody picked it up from back stage from where my stuff was cuz thats where i sat it cuz someone stole my chord so i dont know what happen to the cd fam”

Yes, offcourse.. and I should trust that, before I trust my good friend, who was given the CD from you? And hell just froze over. Thanks for the love.

Jay-B (Jeppe Bisgaard), who was the host of the 3-day event, got so drunk that he decided to try off his mack game on my girlfriend. Apparantly without luck. The day after, he was sober as a cat and very down to earth.

The last day, saturday, we all went to the offical afterparty. I guess we were there for 1 hour or so, before we decided to split and get some food. When I got out, I bumped into 2 african dudes, who asked me if they could get my gold-VIP bracelet. I thought, heck, I wasn’t gonna use it anymore, so offcourse he could have it - IF he could get it off my wrist. So he ended up desperately trying to rip it off my wrist and after 2 or 3 minutes of pulling and yelling, he finally got it off my wrist. Now, that was cool and I was happy for him. But the thing was - while I was chilling afterwards, he tried to get my girlfriends “took-it bracelet” as well. No problem. But he ended up trying to grab my girlfriends boobs, without me seeing it. So I guess, that’s what you get for being a nice guy. Moral of the story and note to self - be more of a dick.

I was also supposed to hook up with Akrobatik and SlopFunkDust to do a track a couple of days after, but they ditched me (after I waited for 1 hour at the trainstation for them and had food cooking for them back home). So all in all, not a very successful American networking experience.

Last but not least, if you have a dope “took it” story, feel free to share it in the comments beneath!

My trip to New York (This has been shortened a bit, or else it would take days to read). I figured I would move this post from my old blog to this one.

Friday:

I left Copenhagen, from Kastrup Airport at 7 in the morning. The flight was alright. Arrived @ Newark aiport, New Jersey at about 1 AM. All I had was an address in Long Island and a phone number. So I went to grab a cab, and I get in and there is this huge guy from Somalia sitting there. I asked him to take me to the designated spot on the map and he says ok. About 30 mins into the trip, he turns around and tells me he has no clue where we are going. So he picks up his phone and calls up all of his african friends, and finally he has an idea of where we are going. Anywho, 1½ hour later we arrive at my destination in Long Island. This fucked up cab ride just cost me 220 bucks, what a way to start a vacation, huh?

I meet up with Little Vic, who’s house I am going to be staying at for the entire week, I am there. I get all my stuff into the house and get settled in, meet some of his friends. I find out that Vic’s throwing a huge house party later on (which was really cool by the way), with a million people. This evening ends with me getting hella drunk and wasted (mostly because of the jetlag).

Saturday:

Woke up late, got some stuff to eat and I bought a million rice krispie treats (I love that shit yo), chilled and went to another “smash your house” kinda party at some friends house. Beer Pong seems to be the game that they play over there. Basically (TM), the objective is to throw ping pong balls into the pyramid shaped lineup of glasses. If you hit one of them, the other team (each team consists of 2 players) have to drink the glasses, which are all filled with beer. Very entertaining to play and watch (I sucked ASS at it though). So we socialized with some drunk people, and I heard alot of funny stories - good stuff.

Sunday:

Woke up late, a bit hungover. The doorbell rang, and Vic got a visit from Big KO (who has produced alot of tracks for Little Vic). Another guy, called Joey “fucking” P, also joined us and the day turned into one long jamsession with Vic on the keys, Big KO on the bass, Joey P on the guitar and me on the camera! Very entertaining..

Monday:

Spent the entire day in the studio, just playing beats and listening to new stuff. After that we watched “House” and “Heroes”, and I tried to lure the others into watching some NBA (mostly ’cause we cant get that stuff over here in Denmark).

Tuesday:

Did some work in the studio. Me and Little Vic did a track together over a beat from Velotz (Flood Industries), sounded pretty good if I may say so. Waiting to finish it one of the following days. Vic also got his new car today.. Cadillac, need I say more. Damn..

Wednesday:

Woke up late (again), Didnt really know what to do, so I decided to spend the day with one of Vic’s friends, named Lusty (producer for Flood Industries). We went to one of his friends house and chilled there for a sec, watching the ever classic “Home Alone”. and as if that wasnt disturbing enough in its own sense, then suddenly the friend comes into the living room with a loaded AK47 with a lasersight and tells me to hold it. Pretending to be impressed, I grab the AK and tell him, that its a nice rifle. After that he tells me to follow him to his room, where I admire all his Vida Guerra posters on the wall - followed by another showcasing of a loaded shotgun, waved right in front of my face. Now, I might be overreacting.. but I’m just not used to having rifles waved in my face, guess I’m too Danish for that.

Anyways, after that we go for a ride into the rich neighbourhood of the town, where the guys smoke alot of pot - imagine the Luniz video “I got 5 on it”, where the guy crawls outta the car with smoke pouring out - then you get the idea.

Then we go the the movie theatre, to watch the new Mel Gibson movie, “Apocalypto”. I was really excited, cause it was supposed to be really good. But but.. I was disappointed like a mofo, I cant really say why, cause then I’ll spoil the plot and everything for all you guys that havent seen it yet. But safe to say, there are some missing SERIOUS plot holes..

Thursday:

Woke up late (again again). Vic’s cousin, DJ JohnJohn came by the house with his MPC and Motif, to play some new beats he did. He had some very dope beats and just produced a track for Raekwon for a movie soundtrack. I bet he will be producing some big names soon, cause he’s got some bangers. I also played him some of my tracks of my album, and the response was very positive. So after that I got picked up at the house by Dutch (another guy, who lives at the house and another producer in the Flood crew) and his 2 sisters (who would fit very well into a reality show kinda like the Osbournes). We went to New York city to see Times Square (which was AMAZING), ate some food at a Irish Pub (I had the Sheperds Pie) and walked around the streets to see Madison Square Garden, Empire State Building and all the shops. I got a good laugh from a store called “Charming”, which was basically a bunch of well cleaned toilettes, and people was standing in a longass line, almost as if it was Disneyland - the music playing was awesome too (I guess you had to be there).

This day I actually didnt have anything to eat all day before 8 o clock in the evening. Safe to say, I felt a bit sick.

Friday:

Got outta bed (well, actually the couch), got a call from DJ Typhoon, who had arranged for me to hook up with a friend of his named Vaughn, who had promised to take me sneakershopping in Brooklyn. So I went there by train, very fascinating to take the train over there and see all the different neighbourhoods. When I arrived, we agreed that there was too much traffic and too crowded, where we wanted to go, because of the holiday season. So we decided to go to Manhattan, to a “secret” shop called “Alife”. I was supposed to get a pair of Jordan 5 Olive/Orange for Typhoon, but unfortunately they didnt have any. So I got myself a pair of limited sneakers (or so I thought, cause when I came home, homeboy Jummer told me that they had those shoes for sale in Wallace - a streetshop in Copenhagen), DAMN.

After sneakershopping, I went to Broadway and walked the entire street looking for shops. I ended up at Ground Zero, where the World Trade Center used to be - basically it was just one big construction site, but still very scary if you allowed your thoughts to drift.

After that, I tried to walk back to Penn Station, but gave up and grabbed a cab. The trainride took me 40 mins and I was mad tired plus my back was hurting from walking around all day. So I got back to the house and no one was home and no one picked up the phone, so I was kinda stuck. I decided to chill outside the house for 30 mins, but it got too cold and I started to walk around the streets - trying not to get mugged by the local Spanish hoodlums. I finally got a hold of one of the guys, who told me that the door hadnt been locked at all - GRAVY. So I finally got home, and Vic was preparing a gourmet dinner for me and his friends. We all ate a really good meal in the dining room (which I taped and got some classic moments, especially from master of comedy - Ari). We then went to this Spanish place called Don Juan and got wasted, went back to the crib and was supposed to do another track. But we kinda fell asleep while writing..

Saturday:

Got up too late, was supposed to go shopping and get all my christmas gifts for the family, but didnt get any shopping done at all. That sucked ass!! So Vic and Dutch drove me to Newark and I got on my plane and made it back home safe..

Thanks for a CRAZY trip - peace to Little Vic, Sly Vest, Lusty, Dutch, Velotz, Ari, Joey fucking P (Basically), JohnJohn, Charles, Frankie Bones.. See ya’ll soon..

Well, today has been a fairly uninspiring day. I was looking forward to sitting all day in the studio and making some gravy tunes, but alas - no productivity, no inspiration to be found. Guess I’ll just have to accept the fact that I can’t be a lean mean hit machine all of the time. I tried making 2-3 beats, but I killed them on the drawing board, before they could walk (if you get my crazy metaphor talk, hehe). I mean, I haven’t even been procrastinating! So now I’m sitting here writing this blog, listening to oldies such as Candyman - Knocking boots (”Ohhh boy, I love you so, never ever ever ‘gon let you go, once I get my hands on yoooouuuu”). Anywho, I thought that I would ask you guys a question regarding some of your favorite emcees.

Now, I was listening to Jay Electronica the other day and heard that he had a “Cold as the winter” reference in his song. Minutes before that, I noticed Lil’ Wayne also had a cold as the winter line on one of his tracks. I thought, WTF? Now, to me personally, those kinda references are in the same league as “my verbal swords slice through your weins”, “I drop lyrical bombs on ya’ll” or “I’m hot as the summer” = Kindergarten lyrics, which was written in the nerd-rap/droppin’ science days. Now my question is simple: Amongst others, Lil’ Weezy and Jay Electronica has been mentioned as some of the greatest rappers now a days. How is it possible to be labeled one of the best rappers out there, when you use such wack lyrics in your songs? Shouldn’t you at least be in the league of OK or mediocre rappers, if you use these incredibly played out metaphors? Are the consumers just stupid? Or is it just me, who likes to fuck ants? (this is a Danish expression translated into English, dont playerhate..) Speaking of Danish references - the picture above: “Kasper Spez ain’t got shit on me”

I found out that TV is deadly. Or put in another way, the wrong shows on TV are deadly. To be precise, the Danish version of “America’s got talent”, called “Talent 08”. Well, to put it shortly, Denmark doesn’t have talent. Not if we are to believe that the people on that show are what we have to show off. I mean, I basically don’t understand the concept – and think it’s ridiculous. How do you put so many different entertainment genres into one bowl and tell people to give the best act their vote. You can’t! Because different entertainment appeal to different people! And don’t even get me started on the whole “Danish media biting American/British shows because we have no originality ourselves” talk. I was forced to endure a whole 30 minutes of this show, because my lovely girlfriend loves these shows (and it hurts deep inside of me) and what I saw, was so toe-crumbling, dagger in my heart-like amazingly embarrassing TV. Fuck this show and the horse it rode in on. Matter of fact, fuck most of these wack-ass TV shows now a days. I kinda came to the conclusion that everything that the Danish channel DR1 broadcasts, is CRAP and it’s sister channel DR2 shows really good television, mostly (said like that girl “Newt” from the “Aliens” movie). Do you guys disagree?
